Font - O 12 S13 AITA for not following the rules of the neighborhood homeowners association even though I live in the neighborhood but am not a member. Neighbors in a Home Owners Association have issues that I don't follow the HOA rules... So the neighbors called me an today... I bought a house 5 years ago that a real estate company built on speculation. Mine was the first house in a planned subdivision that they were going to build one house at a time or as people bought the individual tracks o

Font - The area kind of hit a boom period and the other surrounding houses went up quick. In my contract to purchase my home their was no home owners association and because I was here first I don't have to join any if the other neighbors decide to create. I'm grandfathered in is what it says in my contract. They all seem to forget this though and continually try to give me HOA fines for breaking the rules of the HOA. This has ranged from days I have things delivered to my home (Amazon deliverie

Font - The recent event though that led to them calling me an asshole is they came over to ask me to remove the eyesore in front of my garage. Now my home faces the road not anyone else's house so they do t stare at my garage but apparently they still don't like it. I run a small hobby business of doing woodworking projects and I have a shelf outside my garage door full of various pieces of treated lumber that I may use one day. It's not the neatest and cleanest area but it's not a disheveled me

Font - So I told them if they lightened up and just left me alone about all the other stuff. I'd consider moving my wood pile if it bothered them so much. They proceeded to tell me that I needed to address all the HOA issues and take care of the wood pile. Along with stopping any deliveries on Sundays and getting my other truck out of my yard. They handed me what basically amounts to a ticket and I trashed it and told them to get the F off my property. They called me an unreasonable behavior and

Rectangle - C-Radd11 · 16h 3 Awards NTA - is there any way to get a sort of restraining order on the HOA? Not the people per se, the entity itself?? Or a cease and desist maybe? Idk, but I would totally do that if it were me. 6 Reply 1 18.3k 3 ...

Font - NTA. Lucky you that you are not a part of the HOA. They are a nuisance and I don't understand why anyone ever puts up with them. As you have seen, it's mostly a way for jerks to power trip over their neighbors. You need to send the HOA board a letter reiterating that you are not a part of their association, and stating that they are not allowed on your property without prior permission and any violation will result in the police being called for trespassing. Then if they show up again, ca

Organism - nickelthepickle1 • 16h Nta, they have no say over what you do, simple as that. HOA's are just a way for people to powertrip at home and you're not caving (rightfully so), so they keep trying to pile stuff on. They don't just conveniently forget you aren't in the HOA each time they cite you - they are fully aware so dont back down G Reply 1 214 3 ...

Font - CheMojado • 16h NTA. You were there prior to any other houses being built and are not obligated to join unless you felt like subjecting yourself to torture. You were courteous enough to find a compromise and they decided to change the terms. I would install cameras around your home, if you haven't, as l've read stories of HOA members taking matters into their own hands and could damage your property/yard. This is why I will never buy a home in a HOA... G Reply 4 176 3 ...

Organism - NTA your not a member of the HOA hence you don't have to follow their rules. Is your property as long as your not disturbing the peace or breaking the law they have no right to tell you what you can or can't do within your property including what's on display Honestly them asking you follow their rules and tried to fine you is ridiculous G Reply 4 16 3 ...

Font - No_Proposal7628 · 15h NTA. You aren't a member of the HOA. You don't have to join the HOA. You don't have to follow their rules. They have no legal right to issue tickets or fines. As long as your city or town allows what you have on your property, it is none of their business. Get a lawyer to lay it out for them and send a cease and desist order or you will sue for harassment and anything else the lawyer can come up with. G Reply 4 18 3 ...

You should do the following: 1) Send them all a copy of the page that demonstrates that you do not, and are not required to, belong to the HOA. -and- 2) Hire an attorney to write a bunch of "cease and desist" letters to whatever assholes are writing you citations and busting your chops.
